SaaS engineering for
C-Grade team captains.

How a seasoned software consultant leveraged enterprise-grade foundations to solve the weekly pain of amateur sports organization.

Meet the C-Grade Captain

Let’s be honest: nobody actively campaigns to become a social sports team manager. You usually inherit the job by default because you’re the only one who showed up with a pump, or you made the mistake of starting the group chat.

That was exactly the case for me. I’m an average player in a C-grade weekly social team. I’m not playing for trophies or sponsorships, but I was spending way too much of my weekly free time chasing $10 court fees, reconciling bank transfers, and copying reference numbers in the freezing cold.

However, by day, my day job for the last 20 years has been in professional software delivery. As an Atlassian Consultant, I specialise in rolling out enterprise collaboration and service solutions for large-scale organisations. I knew there had to be a better way than messy spreadsheets and endless WhatsApp reminders.

Fees Please is the result. This isn’t a rushed weekend prototype thrown together by someone playing with basic scripts. It is a fully architected, highly secure, and horizontally scalable SaaS platform designed specifically to support captains who manage their own team operations.

Designed for the Sideline

Software built by corporate boardrooms doesn't work on the sideline. On gameday, your hands are cold, the weather might be rubbish, and players want to buy a beer or head home immediately after the match.

We designed Fees Please with this exact context in mind. We eliminated password login screens (using magic links and social logins instead) and removed player registration blocks. Players don't need to download anything—they just scan a QR code from your phone screen and settle up in seconds via Apple Pay or Google Pay.

By focusing on low-friction payments and automated summary ledgers, Fees Please does the administrative heavy lifting so you can focus on the sport.

Built on trusted foundations.

We believe in complete architectural transparency. Fees Please relies on industry-leading, compliant platforms to secure your team data and process payments safely.

Atlassian Software

Because I implement Atlassian solutions for a living, I built our entire support wiki, ticketing help desk, and documentation platform on Jira Service Management and Confluence. Your logs and requests are managed with enterprise-grade tracking.

Google Gemini AI

Powers our first-tier automated help assistant and the match commentator personas. AI operations run inside secure, logically isolated instances to ensure your private data is never used to train general models.

Supabase (DB)

Our primary relational database engine. Configured with strict multi-tenant isolation policies. We enforce data sovereignty by storing all database nodes on secure servers physically located in Australia.

Square Payments

All credit/debit card checkouts, Apple Pay, and Google Pay operations are handled directly on Square's PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure. Fees Please never touches, handles, or stores your financial keys or credit card details.

Resend Email

Powers our transactional email infrastructure. Ensures that player availability requests, selections, and automated reminders bypass spam folders and deliver instantly to your team's inbox with secure SPF/DKIM verification.

Vercel Edge

Hosts and deploys the Fees Please software layers. Utilises a globally distributed edge network to deliver ultra-low latency load times, advanced DDOS protection, and high-availability serverless runtimes.
